Debt review: ask once, registered debt counsellors may contact you
Written by Olvian · Updated
Olvian is a referral service, not a debt counsellor, and gives no advice. You answer a few short questions in ranges, and we pass your request to registered debt counsellors who may contact you. A registered debt counsellor assesses whether you are over-indebted and what, if anything, comes next. Updated October 2026.

What Olvian does and does not do
Olvian is not a debt counsellor. We do not assess your debts, give advice or deal with your creditors. With your consent, we pass your request to registered debt counsellors. They decide how to take it further and may contact you.
What debt review is
Debt review is a legal process under the National Credit Act. A debt counsellor registered with the National Credit Regulator assesses whether you are over-indebted. Debt counsellors' fees are regulated by the National Credit Regulator.
What we ask, and why
We ask roughly how much you owe, how many creditors or accounts that is, whether you are behind on payments, whether you are already under debt review or administration, your monthly income after tax, and your name and mobile number. Ranges are enough. We do not ask for account numbers or exact balances.
What a debt counsellor will ask, and why
These are the questions on our form for debt review, with what a registered debt counsellor does with each answer. We ask for ranges, not exact amounts. Everything after that is the debt counsellor's work, not ours.
- Roughly how much do you owe in total?
- A range of what you owe tells a registered debt counsellor roughly how large the debt is, without asking for exact figures.
- How many creditors or accounts do you owe?
- How many creditors or accounts you owe tells a registered debt counsellor how many are involved.
- Are you behind on any payments?
- Whether payments are already missed tells a registered debt counsellor where things stand.
- Are you already under debt review or administration?
- If you are already under debt review or administration, a registered debt counsellor needs to know before anything else.
- Which province do you live in? (optional)
- Insurers price and service cover by area, and some only operate in certain provinces.
- Your monthly income after tax
- A range of your monthly income lets a credit provider or debt counsellor see where you stand, without asking for exact figures.
