Personal loans: ask once, registered credit providers may contact you
Written by Olvian · Updated
Olvian is a referral service, not a credit provider. You tell us how much you would like to ask for and a little about your income, and we pass your request to registered credit providers who may contact you. Whether you are offered credit, and on what terms, is each provider's decision. Nothing here is advice. Updated October 2026.

What Olvian does and does not do
Olvian does not lend money, arrange credit or give credit advice. We take your request and pass it, with your consent, to registered credit providers. They decide whether to contact you and whether to make an offer.
Under the National Credit Act, a person who is not a registered credit provider may not advertise the availability of credit. This page does not do that. It describes a referral service.
What we ask, and why
We ask how much you would like to ask for, what it is for (you can skip that), your work situation and your monthly income after tax, as well as your name, date of birth and mobile number. Credit providers use these to see whether your request fits what they offer. We ask nothing about your health, and we do not ask about your debts.
Before you take any credit
Read the credit agreement before you sign it. The provider must give you a written quotation that sets out the cost of the credit, including the interest, fees and the total you would repay. You can compare offers and you are free to say no. If you are already struggling with repayments, a registered debt counsellor can help.
What a credit provider will ask, and why
These are the questions on our form for personal loans, with what a registered credit provider does with each answer. Whether you are offered credit is the provider's decision, not ours.
- How much would you like to ask for?
- The amount you would like to ask for tells a credit provider whether your request is within what it lends.
- What is it for? (optional)
- What the loan is for is optional. Some credit providers lend only for certain purposes.
- Your date of birth
- Age is one of the main things an insurer uses to assess a risk and to decide which products you are eligible for.
- Which province do you live in? (optional)
- Insurers price and service cover by area, and some only operate in certain provinces.
- What best describes your work situation?
- Your work situation tells the insurer how you earn an income, which many products need to confirm you can keep a policy going.
- Your monthly income after tax
- A range of your monthly income lets a credit provider see whether your request fits what it lends, without asking for exact figures.
